Type 3 approved Registered Asbestos Contractor
Only use an approved registered asbestos contractor for asbestos removal. The law states that only RACs are permitted to handle large scale asbestos removal. This means more than 10 square metres.

The deadline to be compliant with the Asbestos Abatement Regulations 2020 was 31 May 2022. Since this date has now now passed, building and homeowners are now urged to have an asbestos assessment done and an asbestos inventory drafted to ensure compliance.
If there is no asbestos roof sheeting or asbestos substructures on your building or home, no action is required. If you have asbestos you will need an asbestos assessment to be done by a competent person.
After this, you will have to have an asbestos inventory drafted. This will include a list of all asbestos items on your building and its state of repair.
Damaged asbestos will need to be replaced as soon as possible. This can only be done by an approved asbestos contractor registered at the Department of Employment and Labour.
For large scale asbestos removal a Type 3 approved Registered Asbestos Contractor must be employed to carry out the asbestos removal.

All asbestos work must be carried out in accordance with the Asbestos Abatement Regulations 2020 which was passed in November 2020, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
A health and safety officer must be contracted to ensure all work is carried out in accordance with the law.
